This is the Ludwig von Mises Institute's criticisms of the Venus Project. This is helpful because it brings together nearly every criticism I've heard from economists on the resource-based economic model (RBEM). Unfortunately, most of their criticisms stem from a lack of understanding of the RBEM, so they are not particularly useful in developing the RBEM much further. Provides a look at some of the more well-informed objections; what is interesting though is that the economist writing the article demonstrated a lack of understanding of not only the RBEM, but also that economists still don't really understand what socialism is.

The Lightbulb Conspiracy. Arte France, 2010.
A film about planned obsolescence in our economy. The film opens with a printer "going bad" and the owner being told by various repair shops that it's just better to get a new one. He finds out that there is a preset lifetime of the printer programmed into the hardware, so that the consumer has to buy a new one. The film then focuses on the centennial light, a light bulb that has been burning for 110 years, outlasting two webcams already. It reveals the original cartel of light bulb manufacturers that colluded to lower the lifetime of light bulbs to only 1000 hours. It continues to reveal examples of several important technologies being engineered to fail in order to make more money.

An interview of Gustavo Castro, an activist coordinator, about market-based solutions to climate change and how they've all been ineffectual. Interesting because of the insane logic that businesses have: one strategy is to buy forests to "offset" the pollution you create. What makes no sense is that the forests were already there, so there is no "offset" occurring. Castro also points out that whether land is being bought to be mined or to "protect the environment", the indigenous farmers are on the losing side. Every market scheme to go green causes human displacement and increased deforestation or pollution.
