Right or Wrong? You decide!
« on: Thu, 23 August 2012, 07:06:55 »
For all readers, I want to start by pointing out that Geekhack is a place full of pleasant knowledgeable people, gentlemen and some nice ladies, so this incident only reflect something that happened between two people. It does not at all have anything to do with GH as a whole!

As you may have noticed, I have not been that active on GH lately.
I was a bit discouraged by an incident with one of the people I believed was a good person. I was wrong!
Meatballs come in many shapes and forms, but if they are said to be magic, beware, because chances are, they are rotten on the inside!

I do my business with honesty and integrity, if something is wrong according to my policies, or even if I think I have done something wrong, I always make up for it.
If the fault however is out of my, or my shipping partners control, if it is not my fault, then I am not responsible.
My business IS personal to me, it is what I do, and I stand behind my decisions! I care about people as a person, not just as customers, and I feel I have met some really nice people on GH that I would like to count among my friends.
I am not afraid to be transparent, I always am, and the first thing I did after my opening post on GH was to put up a feedback section, so that people could write both positive, and also negative things they encountered while using my service. I do business with a conscience!

Brief history of this case:

This whole thing started by GH private message exchanges,
he asks me to look for several items, and i look for them and speak to the sellers,
just checked, he has sent me 23 messages on GH,
I have replied 18 times. That is only the GH exchange, not the many many emails sent back and fourth. These messages are about items he wanted me to find. Business. Not messages between friends.
I spent hours on searching the items and confirming with the sellers that they were available.
This is something that I do not mind to do, but it is time consuming, and it is really more of a favor than a service, since i do not charge anything for it.

He says he wants a keyboard,
It is an old used keyboard.

He asks me to test if it is working.
The keyboard plug does not fit, so i order and pay for an adapter(with my own money) and have it tested. All the keys work.

He then asks for pictures.
These pictures were sent to him. He approves them and the keyboard is shipped.

(The date is not set on the camera, the pictures are not from 2010)

After he receives it he says:
"Received the keyboard today. Definitely NOT happy with it at all. The ad said 90% condition. This is more like 40% condition. Very disappointing."

I say:
"Oh, I am really sorry to hear that the keyboard has not lived up to your expectations.
It's always quite risky to buy the second hand stuff. But on the bright side, at least, it is still working."

He says:
"Actually, only technically. The board is so worn out, that the MX Blues aren't even 'clicky' anymore. So the board is completely worthless.
Also inform the gentleman we have been working with that I will unfortunately not be purchasing the keycaps.
Sorry"

I say:
"Ok, so it was a really bad buy for you...
About the keycaps, I was actually thinking to suggest you not to take it at all, because according to the seller himself, the condition is really awful, so you probably won't be happy when receiving them.
No worries! I will let him know that the deal is off. "

The keycaps mentioned here were a different order that he had said he would purchase, and I had the seller at hold for many days, which put me in a really bad spot. The seller really needed the money fast, and he kept pushing me. But I handled it without disturbing the buyer.

After this I realized that the Rotten meatball had done a chargeback on Paypal. And this is my message to him.

"Apparently you have opened a dispute on Paypal.

Why are you doing this, You know I am not the seller and that I am only providing a service.
YOU wanted to buy this keybaord and I arranged it for you, now you are trying to make ME pay for it.

I have sent you pictures before it was shipped out!
Second hand stuff does not come with a warranty you know that!

You do understand that these kind of chargebacks are against the terms of use of my service right?
If paypal would give you back money even tho you are breaking the agreement of my service you will ruin me!

It was a pleasure to deal with you but I did not know you would do such things behind my back!
If you want to return the item let me talk to the seller first and let us see what kind of return policy he has!
But do not go and do some chargebacks behind my back!

I also encourage you to read trough my webpage, furthest down you can find the terms of use!

Best regards,
Lin"

This is his chargeback reasons he stated.
He knew it was an old used keyboard when he bought it, and he knew it was not in 100% condition.

So, a package arrived today. I felt it and it felt light and it was noisy when i shook it. I decided that it was best not to take it, but to go to the post office and open it.
This is what i sent him.
This is what he sent me back!

There are no screws in the bottom, the electric cord is cut, the keycaps are gone along with some switches, the electric thing inside the keyboard, where you are supposed to plug it in is gone aswell.

He did not only get refunded for the keyboard, he got refunded my service fee as well.
I think the only reason Paypal did not decide in my favor was because I thought he would change his mind,
and i did not reallly explain to them what had happened. I thought I would just let it be and all would be well.
Then he sends me this piece of junk!

Well, what do you all think, is this Right or Wrong?

I expect an open discussion with you MagicMeatball.

You see, you can threaten me with that "I am a a respected member of GH" all you want, thinking that I wont say anything. Active does not necessarily mean respected, you surely lost my respect!
If people think YOU are right, then I do not care for this!

I bet you thought I would not notice this because it was addressed in Finland, but guess what, I spend a lot of time in Finland especially during the summer! There is a reason why Finnish bank transfer is advertised as a payment method on my website!
And I am here now!

On a side note I want to thank the people who have been nice to me here on GH. Some have just been good conversation company and some have even offered to tip me more for my services, which is a nice gesture but unnecessary, since i charge my service fee.

And as I mentioned, this has nothing to do with GH as a whole, it is merely a dispute among two persons.
I think it would be wrong not to speak out about this!

Do you believe in magic, in a young girl's heart?
