This is a 2008 Ford F150 4X4 long bed pickup. It’s finished in Redfire metallic clear coat with the Medium Flint Gray interior. The truck looks absolutely fantastic in this color when combined with the machine finish wheels, black fender flares and chrome trim. This shade of red is one of the nicest colors on an F150 and the paint has been polished and detailed so it looks 10 feet deep. If you are going to spend five figures on a vehicle, you should get the best color they come in like this truck has and you shouldn’t settle on just any color that comes along. The truck is powered by a 248 HP and 294 lb.-ft. of torque Triton 4.6L V8 engine known for it’s high power output, good economy and inherent smoothness. It features two chain driven overhead cams for smooth running, coil on plug ignition for all weather reliability, multiport fuel injection for maximum power and economy and drive by wire throttle for precise engine control. This 4.6L engine is more than capable of performing any job you can give it, from carrying cargo with nearly a full ton of payload capacity to towing a heavy trailer with a 6,400 pound tow rating capacity. While it’s not as powerful as the 5.4L engine, you can get much better fuel economy with 18 to 20 mpg real world highway driving compared to the 5.4L which will barely reach 14-16 mpg. That is one of the best MPG’s of any full size V8 powered 4X4 pickup and is nearly the same as what a compact V6 Ford Ranger 4X4 will achieve. And it runs great on regular grade gas when lightly loaded and also while towing as well. No wonder the F150 is America's best selling pickup.

The engine is mated to an electronically controlled automatic transmission with overdrive that has a low first gear which provides brisk acceleration when starting off, while the high overdrive top gear allows for effortless highway cruising and excellent fuel economy. In fact, at 60 mph the engine is only turning at 1,650 rpm which can result in great MPG figures. Backing up the transmission is a four wheel drive system with a manually shifted two-speed transfer case. While not as fancy as the push-button systems, there are no electronic controls or shift motors to go bad either, plus the front hubs are still automatically locking and unlocking when you shift into and out of 4WD so you still never have to get out of the truck when going into 4WD just like with the push button systems. This transfer case has four positions. 2WD HIGH which is used in all normal driving situations in wet or dry conditions on hard surfaces or gravel where traction isn’t an issue. 4WD HIGH is for most open road driving up to highway speeds on snow, sand and mud covered surfaces where the use of just 2WD wouldn’t provide enough traction. 4WD LOW is for similar surfaces as 4WD HIGH but at much lower speed and where greater power is required such as on steep hills, climbing over rocks and most off-road driving situations including pulling a heavy boat out of the water on a boat ramp. NEUTRAL is most often used for flat-towing the truck, such as behind a motor home. Unlike two wheel drive pickups where you would have to disconnect the driveshaft to flat-tow it, with a 4x4 truck you can put the transfer case in neutral and tow it without damage to the transmission.

If you’re shopping around for an F150 and have also looked at those with the 5.4L engine, another thing to consider when looking at trucks with around 100,000 miles or more are the 5.4L engine’s two problematic service issues, namely spark plug and cam phasar replacements. If those items haven’t been replaced recently, it’s not uncommon to be charged $500 to nearly $1000 to change the plugs due to their tendency to break apart during removal which necessitates a specialized extraction process at the minimum, all the way up to having to remove the heads as a worse case scenario. Plus the cam phasar job is in the $1,000 range as well since the front of the engine has to be taken apart. The 4.6L engine has none of these issues.

This F150 is fully equipped with all the desirable standard safety, comfort and convenience features and optional equipment listed below:

And many more items too numerous to mention.

The body is in great condition with just a few minor dings, scuffs and scratches but certainly less than you would expect on a truck of this age and mileage. The only issue to note is a small dent in front of the rear bumper on the right side. There is no damage to the paint and it isn’t noticable enough to have warranted fixing it. The paint on this truck is in beautiful condition with incredible depth and a mirror-like finish. It has just been cleaned with Meguiar’s Smooth Surface Clay System, polished with Meguiar’s Mirror Glaze cleaner polish and topped off with Meguiar’s Ultimate Synthetic wax for a high gloss shine. This shade of Redfire metallic just about glows in the sunlight. Even both the front and also the backsides of the wheels have been cleaned and waxed! How obsessed is that? Ditto for the polished stainless steel exhaust tip. All the glass, moldings, trim and emblems are excellent and the chrome bumpers and grille also have a brilliant shine.

The interior is in nice condition as well with excellent upholstery, carpet, dash, door panels and headliner. The truck doesn‘t appear to have been smoked in. In fact, it’s not even equipped with a lighter. The engine compartment has been fully detailed and is clean enough to eat off of. It has a factory Ford bedliner which looks like it has hardly ever carried any cargo.

Mechanically it runs and drives excellent. The engine pulls strong and feels smooth both at idle, while accelerating and throughout the cruising range and the transmission shifts smoothly too. The steering wheel is on dead center going down the road with no shakes or vibrations at speed, the brakes are firm with no pedal pulsations or pulling to one side when stopping, and the suspension is tight. The A/C blows ice cold. It has a matching set of four Michelin LTX A/S with more than half their tread left. These Michelins are the smoothest riding and longest lasting tires you can get for this truck. They aren’t cheap but you get your monies worth with a ride that feels like you are driving on a sheet of glass. These are all-season tires that combine extended wear with enhanced traction and handling, a smooth comfortable ride and long tread life with a super long treadwear rating of 420. You should easily go more than another 30,000 miles before shopping for tires. They have been balanced with coated stick-on balance weights mounted on the inside of the wheel for a super clean look. These weights won’t corrode and turn ugly like cheap uncoated weights. The spare is the original full size General Ameritrac tire which doesn’t look like it’s ever been used.

The truck has been fully checked out and serviced with nearly $1,800 worth of new or recent parts, maintenance and repairs with original Ford, Motorcraft or other name brand parts so that only your enjoyment rather than your immediate attention will be required when you get it home. The F150 is economical run with its good gas mileage but it’s also economical to maintain thanks to reduced service requirements. It uses a steel timing chain that lasts the life of the engine unlike some vehicles that use rubber timing belts that require periodic replacement, it has hydraulic valve lifters that never need adjustment and coil on plug (COP) ignition that eliminates spark plug wires. It has platinum tipped spark plugs with a 90,000 mile service interval, extended life coolant with a 105,000 mile service interval and the transmission only needs maintenance every 150,000 miles.

This vehicle is a southern truck originally from Arkansas, which is probably why it’s so clean. The truck has a clean CarFax. CLICK HERE to see the CarFax. The truck comes with both factory transponder keys and remotes:

Ask the other sellers if they too have both keys and remotes because if they don’t it can cost over $200 at the Ford dealer for a replacement with programming.

If you are serious about buying a clean, well equipped late model F150 4X4, this is about as low as they go. Remember, you can get a great deal on-line with prices sometimes way below retail, but nobody is going to “steal” a vehicle and no seller is going to give one away either. Also when comparing prices, remember the things that you won’t have to spend money on. Nearly no expense was spared to make this vehicle reliable and drive like new. With this truck you won’t have to spend $800 for a new set of tires, you won’t have to spend $400 on a complete front brake service, you won’t have to spend $400 on a complete rear brake service, you won’t have to spend $300 on a coolant and transmission service, you won’t have to spend $300 on a tune-up and filters service, you won’t have to spend $300 on any upcoming scheduled maintenance, and you won’t have to spend $200 on a major detailing. So other than routine oil and filter changes, there’s not much you should have to do for nearly the next 100,000 miles. With many of the other listings on Ebay, Craigslist or on dealers lots, you’re lucky if they even check the oil before delivery.

This has been one of my personal vehicles for the last two years which is why I made sure the maintenance was all up to date. Now that everything has been done, it’s time to let it go. I’ve only put 9,000 miles on it myself in that time, and now someone else can put it to more use. The truck is in the Washington DC area but I can deliver for expenses.
