Mutran's logbook

Subject: Strange voices?

Our grand leader has apparently gone just as bonkers as me. Ever since this pointless civil war broke out and his Rahkshi abandoned him, the Master of Shadows has been brooding in his lair, refusing to let anyone inside because he is working on "something big". Personally, I think he is bluffing. He has always been working on big things. Why should this be any different? But still, he relocated us all to some forsaken Bohrok nest, while he himself has been mucking around with the pool of energized protodermis he uses for some his... nastier experiments. If only I had some of that liquid, I could at least entertain myself with sciene, but alas, our leader wants it all for himself. I have amused myself by competing with Chirox instead.

Today, however, something changed. Unlike the silence of the past few weeks, I finally caught a whisper of a conversation from that room. I was surprised at first, because usually we Makuta communicate telepathically, and there was no other beings in that room as far as I knew. I wasn't wrong. Our leader was speaking to himself. Unsettlingy enough, it sounded almost like he was... practicing. Practicing his voice, surely for his next encounter with beings he wants to humiliate.

Suddenly, I dread what the future might bring.

Subject: Karda Nui

Our leader is back to his normal self, it seems. He has managed to make some Rahkshi loyal to himself again, presumably by creating them from scratch and imbuing them with some new form of mind control. In any case, he no longer has any need for me at Mangaia, so while he vents his pent up anger by fighting Toa, I have gone off to the very core of our universe ? Karda Nui ? to work in peace. The only annoyances here are a few nests of Nui-Rama and the occasional skirmish between the various gangs that have formed in the war.

My lab, however, hangs near the cave ceiling, conveniently concealed by both the environment itself and a few simple illusions I have cast around it. Both me and Vican, my loyal assistant, looks like nothing more than two inconsequential insects in the eyes of others, so we can study them while they are unaware of us. Vican, the fool, almost dropped his disguise by venturing too close to a fight, leading to him catching a stray bolt of Chain Lightning. Luckily it was not enough to down him. What would I do without the only loyal underling I have left? I am not as grandiose as our leader. I do not think I can outlast each and every Toa or Rahkshi that comes my way. Eventually we all run dry, and there's simply more of them than there is of me.

Therefore, I shall keep to myself until this whole war blows over. Some day I shall have to venture into the mostly broken Codrex to recover some of the technology there, but until Vican locates the elusive Keystone I cannot get through the energy shield. If I knew its composition I could try to disrupt it, but it is impossible to get a good sample of the energy when the shield flings away all my instruments. Until then, I will just keep trying my hand at mutation and rebuilding. I almost got an Exo-Toa version ready that should be a bit more destructive than previous models...
