You're wrong in thinking of this as "the majority" and "the minority". Thinking that you can classify people into oppressed classes and oppressive classes is overly simplistic thinking. In actual fact, it is much more complex than that. For instance, what if it was a disabled straight person coming onto a rich gay person? The rich gay person will certainly have privilege and power that the disabled straight person does not.

There's a theory called "intersectionality" that you should read up on if you want to give yourself more background information on this subject.

Furthermore, if a person can give another person a beating, I think it's entirely fair to say that they are in a position of power over that person, regardless of what larger sociological struggles they face.

I wish people would stop throwing the word misandry around everywhere. No one here hates men, no one here hates straight people. The problem here is that when straight people come into an LGBT space and say "as a straight person I..." they need to realise that they get to shout their opinions anywhere they want to and there's a space where finally LGBT people get as much of a voice as straight people do anywhere else and they get overridden by a straight person? It's annoying.

It does when the opinion in question is invalidating the experiences of a minority, talking over a minority, etc. by a person who is of the majority. This thread has a bunch of people from the majority racing in to invalidate the experiences of lesbians venting about random straight dudes being assholes to them at bars. Not every guy is like that: this is a given. Everyone else already knows this, but it isn't appreciated when someone or some group runs in without thinking or reading anything, pointing out a known thing like it's a revelatory opinion handed down by angels to elevate the discussion. It's condescending and patronizing. It adds absolutely nothing to the discussion.
